Dr. Richard Winchell, DM

Welcome to drrichardwinchell.com. This website is dedicated to the life and musical contributions of Dr. Richard M. Winchell, DM. Dr. Winchell is a composer, conductor and musician trained at Florida State University. He has studied with renowned composers like Carlisle Floyd and John Boda. He has been commissioned to write music by talented musicians like Robert Coleman, former violist with the Chicago Symphony and Cape Cod Symphony.

Dr. Winchell has written many recognized musical works, including fantasies for piano/organ, piano sonatas, choral anthems and variations for brass ensemble. His performance/conducting career spans all different types of major pieces including Brahms’ Requiem, Mozart’s Requiem, J.S. Bach’s St. John’s Passion, Handel’s Messiah, Mahler’s Resurrection Symphony and Honneger’s King David.

As a college-level instructor, Dr. Winchell taught theory, sight singing, keyboard harmony and class piano at Seminole State College in Seminole County, FL. At the University of Central Florida, he was director of choral activities and conducted their university chorus. He was also a visiting assistant professor at Florida State University and directed their university chorus.

Dr. Winchell’s works has been performed by distinguished musicians such as Robert Coleman, Joyce Hammann and others. He has always written music directly from the heart with no pretense or compromise. His expressive arrangements reflect this raw emotion and convey it powerfully to the listener.
